When exploring the depths of the mystical forests of Chitwan National Park, you are stepping into a realm where history, biodiversity, and conservation meet to offer a one-of-a-kind experience. Established in 1973, Chitwan National Park is the first National Park in Nepal and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. This vast expanse of subtropical lowlands, spanning over 932 square kilometres is a testament to the Nepali commitment to preserving its natural heritage.
The diverse ecosystems are abundant throughout the park, ranging from dense forests to marshlands and grasslands. Jungle safaris will take you through the fascinating wildlife species going out and about with their peaceful lives. It is a haven for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers. Chitwan is home to over 700 species of wildlife, including the iconic one-horned rhinoceros, Royal Bengal Tiger, Asian elephant, and over 500 species of birds. As jungle surfers, you will find magic throughout the 235,000 acres of land, with nature’s stories and mystics in every corner of the park.
The Jungle Jeep Safari is led by experienced guides who have found the best routes for you to take in most of ever so many wonders the park has to offer. The rusty roads take you through exotic pathways to peak into the elusive wildlife spread throughout the park. The sight of endangered species such as One-horned Rhinos, and Gharials are the most feasible and memorable parts of the ride. As the Safari takes on, you will start hearing the sound of the subtle flowing waters of the Rapti River. A leisure boat ride will give you a different perspective of the animal and bird species, especially the gharials pouncing and sunbathing around the riverside the deeper and further you drift along the waterway.
In the past few years, Chitwan National Park has also made innovative efforts to promote saving endangered fauna species. The Gharial Breeding Centre is one such area where the endangered Gharials are bred. It is one of the most unique and fascinating experiences watching the hatching process of baby Gharials. It gives you a different perspective on wildlife and the significance of the sheer need to promote conservation in the wider sphere.
Another visitor's favourite activity in this enticing national park is its extravagant bird-watching adventures. The park is home to some of the rarest species of resident and migratory birds fluttering the forest trees and the skies. It is hard to miss them when surfing through the national park on the jungle safari. Each sighting offers a unique glimpse into the vibrant ecosystem within the small-green world of the mighty Chitwan National Park.
On the outskirts of the park, you will spot little Indigenous Tharu communities residing in the villages. There are different cultural programs organised every day showcasing the enticing and unique heritage of the community, from witnessing the raw and simple lives of the people to enjoying their traditional dances and crafts. One of the charming parts of their lives is witnessing their relationship with nature. Whether you’re seeking adventure or a peaceful getaway from the bustles of daily life, Chitwan National Park offers a captivating journey into the heart of Nepal’s wilderness in the rawest and quietest form. With every step, you’ll discover the intricate wildlife within the park boundaries, leaving you with memories to cherish and a deeper appreciation for the wonders of nature.
